So, it's Sunday morning and my main man Luke MacDonald and I not only finished the 10k run but we arrived at the finish line in style...
Managed to beat Gerry Walsh (he's one of the founders of this event and the person who got me involved in the race) Now the only reason I mention right off the top that we beat Gerry is because of some competitive like comments he made to us on the route...About half way through he announced that "being ahead or behind only matters at the finish line" - IT WAS GAME ON!
We smoked him!
The race conditions were perfect - misty and cool but not cold. Overcast and no wind. It couldn't have been better
We went out near the front of the more than 2000 participants and kept our pace slow. Lots of folks passed us early but we stayed focused on our game plan - not really, we just kinda jogged, talked and laughed...that's the joy of running with Luke
At any rate, we decided on the bridge on the return that we would put some effort into this thing and we started pushing on the upside and by the time we got to the downside (Halifax side) we were passing all sorts.
We were identifying people ahead and then passing them. All the time Luke was pushing me. He really knows how to accomplish things in races.
It was exhilirating...And it was pure fun. We finished strong and at pretty much right on the 60 minute mark...which sort of had been our thought as we started. I had the flu the day before and Luke was suffering from serious sinus infection so reality was we just wanted to finish. That we actually got competitive was a real bonus. Not sure if the others realized were competing with them but it was wicked fun for us.
Now it's time for a soak, a rest and watch the martini glasses start to freeze up for a family birthday party this evening.
Running is good...running in the Blue Nose is very good! try it
