Progress in the Community

At Progress, we’re supportive of the communities in which we live and work. As both a whole and its individual parts, Progress realizes the importance of investing in the community and is devoted to making a difference.

Each year, Progress donates to registered charities and not-for-profit organizations throughout Atlantic Canada.  Members of our staff sit on boards, are members of societies, clubs, and teams, and volunteer their time to a number of not-for-profit organizations.

Drum! for Africa
Progress publisher Neville Gilfoy serves on the Dartmouth Rotary Club committee working to build schools, clinics, and wells in West Africa. In 2006, Gilfoy traveled to Niger and Burkina Faso to act as translator.  After seeing firsthand the impact of the economic and social contributions made by the committee, his commitment to the project only grew.

Gilfoy shared this experience with delegates at the 2007 Face to Face event, encouraging attendees to donate money to the cause. In September of that same year, Progress was the presenting sponsor of Drum! for Africa, a musical performance produced by Brookes Diamond.  Close to $26,000 was raised for the project.

The Mentoring Program
As a way to give back to the business community, Progress launched the Mentoring Program at the 2007 Face to Face business retreat. The program allows executives and entrepreneurs of early stage companies the opportunity to attend the Progress Face to Face conference free of charge. The participants receive invaluable advice from delegates and take part in learning sessions.
